Mixed Media

My artwork focuses on florals and botanicals. I create a few styles of botanical art - mixed media - a hybrid of art and photography, combining artistic skills and photo imagery, as well as pen and watercolour, along with collage.

My hybrid artwork emphasises the natural beauty of botanicals to create bold graphic art pieces that capture the strong lines, structures and shades of a variety of flowers and foliage. Each piece starts life on watercolour paper and is delicately built up using a range of mediums from watercolours, acrylics, Caran D’Ache pencil crayons as well as a light touch of black ink pen. My pen and watercolour botanical artwork incorporates and contrasts black pen with delicate watercolour hues. I’ll continue to experiment with my pen, watercolour and collage, as well as my hybrid artwork.

I’ve created and sold botanical art through galleries, art events and interior designers.  My work is about ‘bringing the outside in’ and draws inspiration from English country gardens. My hybrid mixed media work melds together my experience of working in the photographic industry with my lifelong passion for creating art. I’ve worked in the creative industries for over 25 years – art directing and producing photo shoots for the likes of the BBC and Getty Images. I find creating art to be therapeutic and working with different mediums such as pen and watercolour, a meditative process. I’ve been exploring the wellness aspect of art and have delivered Pen Drawing for Wellbeing workshops for NHS Social Prescribing, Support Staffordshire and Healthwatch Staffordshire.
I run Botanical Pen & Watercolour workshops across Derbyshire, Cheshire, Shropshire, Leicestershire, Staffordshire and the Cotswolds. I run workshops for David Austin Roses, the National Trust, Wedgwood, Daylesford Organic / Bamford Collection, Creative Melbourne Gallery,  Wildhive Callow Hall, The Tawny Hotel, and Dorothy Clive Gardens. Plus I work with Leicestershire County Council, Staffordshire County Council and numerous community and school workshops. I have been part of a We Are Staffordshire team that was a finalist in an International Civic Engagement award with our artwork project for Staffordshire Day. There is something meditative within the artwork I create - both my hybrid work and my pen and ink. Its aim is to draw people in, to get them to look deeply at the art, to explore the botanical images and take their mind away from the everyday.
